A little bit of chit-chat
Evmos successfully resumed its activity after almost a two-month halt. However, this time, the team divided the launch into phases. Last week, they relaunched the EVM and allowed community members with Metamask wallets to claim the Rektdrop. This week, they will enable staking rewards and IBC transfers. We put together an interactive guide if you want to learn how to claim your airdrop. Remember to stake to us to help us support privacy in the greater Cosmos ecosystem.
Some community members discovered a potential scam threatening Osmosis users. According to what has been shared on a community forum, when users searched for Osmosis on Google, an advertisement showing the legit URL showed up. However, they were redirected to a completely different site once they clicked it due to Google Ads’ feature that allows advertisers to show any URL they wish to, even if it’s not theirs.
Time to decide ⏰
One of the most controversial proposals on the Cosmos Hub is taking place right now. Proposition 69 asks the community to vote on whether the Hub wants to include CosmWasm in the Rho Upgrade targeted for Q2 2022.
This vote differs from the traditional vote on upgrades for the Cosmos Hub, where users vote to approve or disapprove a complete upgrade. Billy Rennekamp, Cosmos Hub Product Lead at Interchain GmbH, decided to raise the debate on whether his team should include CosmWasm in the next release since he detected a large discrepancy of opinion around the matter.
The divide in the opinions comes because there are some serious risks and benefits involved should CosmWasm be included in the Rho Upgrade. For instance, CosmWasm will allow anyone to push new features to the blockchain without changing the base code. Governance should approve such changes. This will improve the adoption of innovation and new features on the Cosmos Hub while lowering the burden on Validators and Maintainers.
However, this will put more weight on the community, which will be responsible for gating new code into the chain; according to some members, this increases the risk for malicious code deployments.
Axelar Wins 🏆
Axelar will become the Canonical Ethereum Bridge Service Provider (BSP) for Osmosis after achieving the highest amount of Ayes (64,563,467.79) in comparison to the other candidates who were part of the vote.
In second place arrived Nomad with 35,031,816.55 Ayes, closely followed by Gravity Bridge, which received a total of 33,370,059.08, a better result than what it got on the initial poll after the Town Hall. Wormhole only received 14,765,501.94 Ayes and was the project with the highest amount of negative votes totalling over 62 million.
Since none of the projects is within 15% of the total voting power from Axelar, there will not be a run-off. Both the Osmosis DAO and Axelar will start to work together without contractual promise or obligation. According to the governance proposal that sets the rules for the election of a BSP, it is worth noting that. However, the community has chosen Axelar as BSP. The work relationship and deliverables will dictate whether or not the integration is finalised.
Cosmos and Dotsama get closer ⚛️
The Interchain Foundation has awarded a grant to Composable Finance to support the development of a BEEFY Light Client, which will allow the Substrate-based Centauri bridge to enable cross-chain interoperability between Cosmos and Dotsama (Polkadot and Kusama).
Centauri is a trustless bridge that links IBC with Composable’s Kusama parachain, Picasso. Composable is building this cross-chain bridging infrastructure from scratch. Its goal is to act as the foundation on which an ecosystem-wide opportunity for other networks is created.
