A little bit of chit-chat…
What is in a name? Would a rose by any other name smell as sweet? Names seem to be a topic this week in the Cosmos. Not only do some people want Cosmos to change the Cosmos Hub’s name, but there was also a proposal that was rejected to change the name of the Evmos native coin to EVM (From EVMOS).
Shielded Staking is Here 🛡️
Penumbra team took a huge step towards financial privacy in blockchain with the deployment of their fourth testnet which implements shielded staking.
Shielded staking would enable delegators to stake privately while retaining accountability for validators. This testnet, named Thelxinoë after the fourth-smallest named moon of Jupiter, deployed the core economic mechanism for Penumbra’s staking design.
According to the team, this progresses the project towards their MVP2 milestone, with only other 3 outstanding tasks to complete:
Implementing an unbonding period
Finalizing the validator state machine
Writing back the voting powers to Tendermint
This team is really moving fast. Besides aiming to move to a weekly testnet cadence, they are already paving the way for their MVP3, which is IBC support, enabling Penumbra to act as a shielded pool for the entire Cosmos ecosystem.
We will stay tuned to see what comes next with Penumbra!
A wheel of names! 🎡
The Cosmos community witnessed and participated in a heated discussion on Twitter about whether the Cosmos Hub should change its name.
It all started from a tweet thread in which @sunnya97, co-founder of Osmosis, argued that the name “Cosmos” refers to the whole ecosystem which he argued is borderline deceptive marketing.
According to those in favor of Sunny’s argument, the Cosmos Hub and its token ATOM were getting a lot of buzz in the markets because the whole ecosystem was associated with them when in reality, all IBCs are independent.
It got to a point where a proposal was posted to the Cosmos Hub community board asking voters to decide if the Cosmos hub should be rebranded to Gaia. Proposal #63 is still in the deposit period.

Cosmos and Ethereum threw a party, and everyone was invited 🎉
Gravity Bridge announced on Wednesday that its Frontend was deployed and available to users, bringing to life a new way for Ethereum and Cosmos to interact.
The first iteration allows users to send DAI, ETH, and USDC over to Cosmos. It’s a big milestone for the project that aims to act as a neutral bridge between Ethereum and Cosmos.
The Gravity Bridge allows different cosmos-based projects to access ERC20 assets without having to operate their own application-specific bridge on their own chain.
Apparently, the Gravity Bridge will also be integrated with Osmosis soon.
