A little bit of chit-chat
This week we launched our validator on Agoric, our fourth validator in the Cosmos ecosystem. We will continue to onboard new networks from the IBC. Meanwhile, please delegate your $BLD tokens to us if you want to support us. To delegate, click here and write our name ZKValidator on the search box.
Juno’s halt in a nutshell 🐺
The Juno core team halted the chain on Thursday after discovering a denial of service smart contract attack, preventing validators from reaching consensus.
The team and community members were able to reproduce and fix the bug some hours later, deciding to create a fork of Juno v0.45, including the security patch. Moreover, as the team examined the situation, they also noticed that other CosmWasm chains could be a target and suffer the same exploit.
According to a detailed Twitter Thread by Assaf Morami, one of the Secret Network team members helping Juno to fix the issue, the bug had its origin on the Cosmos SDK. It was fixed six days before the attack, which could have given some inspiration to the attackers.
Are devs doing something? 🥷
One of the metrics used in Blockchain to measure the progress of a network is the developer activity. Mintscan added a Dev Activity tool to its stack, which shows the Cosmos chains’ performance in this matter.
In the last six months, the most active chains by average weekly commits are Osmosis, the Cosmos Hub, Provenance, Injective and Stargaze. Compared to other ecosystems, the Cosmos Hub ranks 19 in commits in the last six months, as reported by CryptoMiso, surpassing Ethereum, Polkadot and Near in this category.
In terms of contributors, the top 10 chains are Cosmos Hub (775), Fetch (276), Devmos (240), Akash (239), Ki Chain (225), Evmos (210), Iris (189), Regen Network (188), Osmosis (183) and Umee (159).
On the other hand, the least active projects in the Cosmos ecosystem are Certik, Rizon, Chihuahua, Cerberus and BitCanna, with less than 500 commits since their creation.
A lot is going on in the lab 🧪
Osmosis is bringing Polkadot’s native token DOT to the IBC through their canonical bridge provider Axelar. The integration is possible thanks to Axelar being connected to Moonbeam, which allows users to trade DOT on Osmosis without doing anything else.
With the integration ready, two proposals recently passed regarding this new development. Proposal 286 created an incentivized pool for the OSMO/DOT pair, while Proposal 287 added DOT to the Major category assets, which implies a particular volume of incentives.
On the other hand, Osmosis is also preparing to launch a new upgrade. The Osmosis v11 will introduce a minimum fee for messages of 75 OSMO. New proposals will now require a percentage of the deposit to be filled by the proposing wallet; the initial percentage would be 25%.
Airdrops List 💧
No relevant airdrops this week. Maybe the heat of the summer got airdrops a bit scarce.
